SR-22 Filing
A state-required proof of financial responsibility filed by your insurer after certain violations.
An SR-22 is a certificate of financial responsibility that your insurance company files with the state on your behalf. It is typically required after serious traffic violations such as DUI, driving without insurance, or multiple at-fault accidents. The SR-22 proves to the state that you carry at least the minimum required insurance coverage.
The SR-22 is not an insurance policy itself. It is a form that your insurer files electronically with your state's DMV. If your policy lapses or is cancelled, the insurance company is required to notify the state, which can result in suspension of your driving privileges. Most states require SR-22 filings to remain active for three years, though the period varies by state and violation.
For commercial truck drivers, an SR-22 requirement can complicate your insurance situation and increase your premiums. Not all insurance companies will file SR-22s for commercial drivers. At Full Coverage, we work with carriers that handle SR-22 filings for CDL holders and can find coverage that keeps you on the road while meeting your state's requirements.
