The New Authority
How to Start a Trucking Company in 2026, Survive Year One, and Keep More of Every Mile
By Nazar Mamaev, founder and president of Full Coverage LLC. CDS · TRS · TRIP. Licensed in 47 states.
$300 buys your authority number. It buys nothing else.
Year-one insurance on a new authority runs $15,000 to $25,000. The truck costs $2.34 a mile to operate. And 26,000 drivershave been taken off the road since June 2025. The carriers who survive year one aren't luckier than you. They know the numbers before the numbers know them.
So we wrote the book. It's free. No catch.
Three parts. Twelve chapters.
- Part I — Launch (Weeks 0–8): Decide like an owner. Set up the LLC right. Run the Paperwork Gauntlet (USDOT, MC, BOC-3, UCR, IRP, IFTA, 2290, Clearinghouse) as one master sequence with costs. Get your money lined up before your miles.
- Part II — Survive (Months 1–18): The Coverage Stack: every policy in plain English, including the endorsements most brokers never mention. The Underwriter's Scorecard: how insurers actually price a new authority, and how to become the carrier they compete for. Plus CSA scores, roadside inspections, and freight that actually pays.
- Part III — Scale (Year 2+): Hiring drivers who stay. The tech that lowers your premium. Cost-per-mile discipline. When to add the next truck.
Every chapter ends with DO THIS NOW steps. Real numbers throughout. No filler.
Why is it free?
Nazar puts it plainly: “I'm an insurance broker. I make money when trucking companies survive. My incentive is your survival.” He holds CDS, TRS, and TRIP designations, works with 30+ commercial trucking carriers, and specializes in new authorities and small fleets. Full Coverage is licensed in 47 states plus Washington, D.C.
FAQs
Who is this book for?
Anyone getting their authority in 2026 — first-time owner-operators, drivers making the leap, or dispatchers who want to understand what their carriers are up against. If you already have 3+ years of authority and a stable book of business, Part I is review; Parts II and III still have material you can use.
Is this the same as the trucking insurance cost report?
No. The 2026 Cost Report is a data document — 50-state benchmarks, broker placements, ATRI figures. The New Authority is a narrative book: operational, opinionated, and built for someone starting from zero. They complement each other; neither replaces the other.
What's the “Underwriter's Scorecard” in Chapter 6?
Your insurance premium isn't a price. It's a score. Underwriters evaluate your authority age, safety record, CSA BASIC scores, driver history, commodity, and radius before they set your rate. Chapter 6 walks through every factor and tells you exactly which ones move the needle — and which direction.
Why is the toolkit separate from the book?
The toolkit is three printable one-pagers (checklist, timeline, worksheet). Easier to use at a desk or on a clipboard than hunting through chapters. No email required for the toolkit — get it at /new-authority-toolkit.
Can I share this with other carriers?
Yes. Forward the email, share the link, print it out. Attribution: “The New Authority by Nazar Mamaev, Full Coverage LLC.” Link to myfullcoverage.com/new-authority.
