Free Trucking Insurance Policy Check
Upload the declarations page of your current truck insurance policy. In about a minute you get a plain-words report: what the page lists, what it does not list, and how your liability limit compares with the FMCSA minimum.
What a Declarations Page Shows
The declarations page is the summary at the front of your policy. Most trucking dec pages carry the same six things.
- Named insured
- The legal name of the business the policy covers, and often the DBA.
- Policy number
- The number the insurer uses for every claim, change and certificate.
- Policy term
- The effective date and the expiration date. The renewal is due on the anniversary of the effective date.
- Each coverage
- Every coverage the policy carries, each with its own limit and deductible.
- Scheduled units
- The trucks and trailers listed on the policy, usually by year, make and VIN, sometimes with a stated value.
- Scheduled drivers
- The drivers the insurer has approved, when the policy lists drivers by name.
FMCSA Insurance Minimums
The federal minimum public liability for motor carriers of property. The check compares the liability limit on your page with the row that fits what you haul.
| What you haul | Vehicle weight | Minimum | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| General freight (non-hazardous property), for-hire, interstate | 10,001 lbs GVWR or more | $750,000 | 49 CFR 387.9; on file under 49 CFR 387.303T(b)(2)(i) |
| Oil, or hazardous materials, waste or substances not in the $5,000,000 classes (for-hire and private) | 10,001 lbs GVWR or more | $1,000,000 | 49 CFR 387.9; on file under 49 CFR 387.303T(b)(2)(iii) |
| Listed hazmat: bulk hazardous substances in cargo tanks, portable tanks or hoppers; bulk explosives (Div 1.1-1.3); bulk Div 2.3 Zone A; bulk Div 6.1 PG I Zone A; bulk Div 2.1/2.2; highway-route-controlled Class 7 (for-hire and private) | 10,001 lbs GVWR or more | $5,000,000 | 49 CFR 387.9; on file under 49 CFR 387.303T(b)(2)(ii) |
Vehicles under 10,001 lbs GVWR hauling the listed explosive, poison gas or Class 7 materials also need $5,000,000 (49 CFR 387.9). A for-hire fleet of only vehicles under 10,001 lbs GVWR hauling non-hazardous property must have $300,000 on file (49 CFR 387.303T(b)(1)(i)).
Cargo filings for household goods movers
Household goods carriers must carry cargo security of $5,000 for loss or damage on any one vehicle and $10,000 for losses at any one time and place (49 CFR 387.303T(c)). It is filed with FMCSA on a BMC-34 certificate of insurance, a BMC-32 endorsement or a BMC-83 surety bond (49 CFR 387.313(a)(3)).
Coverages a Dec Page Often Leaves Out
None of these is required by FMCSA, and not every operation needs each one. They are worth a look on your own page.
Physical damage
Check whether your page lists physical damage (comprehensive and collision) for each truck, with a stated value and a deductible. Liability pays others; physical damage pays for your own truck.
Trailer interchange
Check whether your page lists trailer interchange if you pull trailers you do not own under an interchange agreement. Many shippers and intermodal yards ask for it.
Non-trucking liability or bobtail
Check whether your page lists non-trucking liability or bobtail if you are leased to a motor carrier. The carrier's policy usually covers you only while you are under dispatch.
Reefer breakdown
Check whether your page lists reefer breakdown if you haul temperature-controlled freight. Spoilage from a refrigeration unit failure is often written as its own coverage.
General liability
Check whether your page lists general liability. It answers claims that do not involve a moving vehicle, such as an injury at your yard or at a customer's dock, and many contracts ask for it.

Policy Check FAQ
What is a declarations page in trucking insurance?
The declarations page, often called the dec page, is the summary at the front of your policy. It shows the named insured, the policy number, the policy term, each coverage with its limit and deductible, and the trucks and drivers the policy lists.
What is the FMCSA minimum liability for a trucking company?
For-hire carriers hauling non-hazardous property in interstate commerce with vehicles of 10,001 lbs GVWR or more must carry at least $750,000 in public liability. Oil and most hazardous materials need $1,000,000, and the listed hazmat classes need $5,000,000 (49 CFR 387.9).
Does the policy check send my policy to an outside AI?
No. The PDF is read by code on Full Coverage's own computer. It is not sent to an outside AI service, and the file is not shown back to anyone on the web.
What if my PDF is a scan or a photo?
If the PDF has no readable text, the report says it could not be read and a person at Full Coverage reviews it instead.
Does the check tell me my claim will be paid?
No. The report reads what the declarations page shows. Whether a claim is paid depends on the full policy wording, its endorsements and the facts of the loss. Call us if you want a person to go over it.
Do I have to buy anything?
No. The check is free. After the report you can ask for a quote, or not.
